Which Linux Distro Should I Choose for Gaming and Content Creation?

I'm a gamer and content creator with an RTX 4060 laptop and an Intel i7 13700HX processor. I'm considering four Linux distros: SteamOS, Bazzite OS, ZorinOS, and QubesOS (I know Qubes isn't user-friendly, but I'm interested in learning it). My primary concerns are finding a distro that offers high frame rates, runs DaVinci Resolve well, and is good for everyday use. Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I’d say skip SteamOS unless you’re strictly gaming on a handheld. It's not very user-friendly for desktop use right now and could cause driver issues with your Nvidia setup. Focus on something like Bazzite or even ZorinOS. Either of those should suit your gaming and content creation needs without much hassle.

You might want to check out our distro selection guide for a comprehensive look. Starting with a virtual machine to try out a few options is a great way to find what works best for your setup. And remember to always back up your data just in case things go sideways!

Honestly, any of the distros you mentioned could work, but I'd steer clear of SteamOS for a desktop experience, especially with Nvidia drivers. Bazzite OS is a good alternative, though you might want to look at Fedora with KDE or Kinoite for a more straightforward experience. Remember, DaVinci Resolve can complicate things, so check their official supports for distros.

I’d suggest checking out CachyOS. It’s optimized for performance and pretty easy to install. I tried it out recently, and it ran games smoothly after just a few simple steps. Plus, the optimized repos are a nice touch. Just keep an eye on the Arch homepage before updates, in case of any issues.

Cachy is brilliant! I was able to run some tricky games with very few hiccups, so I'm really happy with my decision.

I just started using CachyOS too! It’s been great so far – I haven't broken anything yet, but I feel like it'll handle everything I throw at it pretty well. Definitely a solid choice!
