My cousin is ready to swap his integrated graphics for a dedicated GPU and is thinking about getting the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. He has an i9 9900K, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB SSD, a Z390 motherboard, and a 650W 80+ bronze PSU. His main concern is whether the 9900K will bottleneck the RTX 5060 Ti, especially when gaming at 1080p and 1440p. He wants to know if this combo will handle modern AAA games without issues, or if he should be worried about future releases.

The 9900K can still hold its ground for a couple more years. Sure, you could opt for something newer later, but for now, it should do just fine. I'd still lean towards the 9060 16GB, though!

It might bottleneck a bit, but it's not a huge concern. You could try the 5060 Ti first and see how it performs. At 1440p, the chances of a bottleneck are lower, so that should help.

I overclocked my 9900K for added longevity before moving to a newer setup. It’s still quick enough for most games, and you can find guides on safe overclocking if you want to stretch its lifespan a little longer!

The i9 9900K is getting older, but it depends on the games and your monitor's refresh rate. Often, it’s more about the refresh rate than the CPU or GPU themselves. If he's happy with his current setup at lower settings, upgrading to the 5060 Ti will still bring a good performance boost. For many modern games, the 9900K is still a valid choice.

He'll mainly play AAA games at 1440p with a 144Hz monitor, aiming for 60+ FPS on decent settings. Would that work well?

Generally, you won't have major issues at 1440p, but at 1080p with competitive games, it might. Just remember, it's crucial to grab the 16GB version. Between you and me, the AMD 9060 XT 16GB is a solid choice at around $370 too.

He’s mainly into AAA titles like Cyberpunk and Wukong.

Anyone with a 9900K really needs a GPU upgrade, but if budget's tight, you might want to check out the 9060 XT 16GB since it's usually cheaper.

In my experience, a similar setup with the 5060 Ti 16GB runs well at 1080p. You may lose some performance compared to newer builds, but it’ll still keep pace for most games, particularly at 1440p where the bottleneck isn't as noticeable. If they enjoy playing CPU-heavy games like Baldur's Gate, getting a new GPU won't hurt, but it can be fine for now. My partner thinks the 9900K is still okay for the time being despite being a bit dated.

Regardless of bottlenecking, upgrading to the RTX 5060 Ti is a significant performance boost!
