Thinking of Switching to Linux: Any Advice for a Newbie?

I'm contemplating a switch to Linux because I really don't want to upgrade to Windows 11 when support for Windows 10 ends. I've considered it for a while but I'm also an avid gamer and I'm aware that many popular games (like Call of Duty: Warzone) are not supported on Linux. I'm looking for recommendations on the best Linux distribution for a beginner who wants to dive into tech; I've been thinking about Linux Mint, but I'm not set on it yet. Additionally, I plan on dual-booting with Windows 11 for the games I can't run on Linux. Any tips or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely remember to back up your system properly! Avoid frustrating situations later on by making sure you have backups in place before making the switch. Or, you could let the Ubuntu or Mint installer handle backups for you automatically, which might save some hassle.

Yeah, letting the installer do it is a great idea! Makes the transition smoother.

I just set up Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop yesterday, and I think it's perfect for beginners! Simple setup and looks great. Definitely give it a try!

Make sure to disable hibernation, fastboot, and suspend if you’re dual-booting. It's best to start by booting a Mint USB stick and running it for a few days. This will help you get a feel for it before fully installing.

Making the jump to Linux is a solid choice, especially with Windows 10 phasing out. For gaming, it's smart to dual-boot since some games just don't work on Linux. **Linux Mint** is a fantastic pick for newbies—easy to install and user-friendly. You might also want to check out **Ubuntu**, **Fedora**, or **Manjaro** for more options. A great tip is to try using a virtual machine to test different distributions without altering your main setup. It's a little learning curve, but totally worth it once you get the hang of it!

Consider giving ZorinOS a shot! It's really user-friendly like Windows 10 and deserves more love in the community. And if anyone suggests you install Arch, just smile and ignore them—they're not beginner-friendly!
