So I picked up this old compact disc MP3 player from a thrift store, and I finally got some batteries for it. I was excited to try it out, but when I insert a CD, it shows that it's been read on the display but doesn't actually play any sound. I've tried every button combination I could think of, and I've even cleaned the lens with an alcohol wipe. I'm starting to wonder if this player is just too old to play CDs anymore. Any thoughts on what might be wrong? Thanks for the help!

Also think about the age of your CDs. Even though you mentioned they’re relatively new, sometimes optical media can have reliability issues over time. Just to be safe, double-check that the CDs are in good condition.
It looks like it can read the CD's data, which is a good sign that the laser is working. However, the issue might be with the audio pathway not functioning correctly, which can be a common problem with older CD players. Unfortunately, that might be tricky to fix.
First off, make sure the CDs you're using are actually music CDs and not ones loaded with MP3s. Each player supports different formats, so check if your player has a manual online that details what formats it can handle.
