Looking for Guidance on Redesigning Websites as a Beginner in UX/UI and Front-End Dev

Hey everyone! I've recently embarked on my journey into UX/UI and Front-End Development. I've picked up some skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and I'm currently learning React, Node.js, and Angular. I took the initiative to reach out to a local healthcare facility and my therapist about redesigning their outdated websites, and surprisingly, they both agreed to it!

Even though I have some experience with front-end development, I'm just starting out with UX design and I'm enrolled in a course that should wrap up next month. My goal is to complete both projects by the end of July on my own. However, I've been feeling quite discouraged with all the recent news about instability and layoffs in the tech industry, especially in UX roles.

I don't have formal work experience in either field, and while I did attend a known university, I didn't finish my degree. This redesign project is a fantastic chance for me to gain real experience, but I'm dealing with feelings of imposter syndrome and lack of confidence.

I'd really appreciate any advice from professionals in the field. What should I focus on, and how can I leverage these projects for future opportunities? Thanks a lot!

Hey! I totally get where you're coming from. I've been in this industry for quite a while, and honestly, uncertainty is part of the game. The skills you're learning now—design and coding—will always be valuable. Even if AI changes the landscape, someone will still need to design for it! Just keep pushing forward; you’re on the right track.

As for the design part, don't hesitate to study the best practices. If you’re tackling a clothing store, for example, check out the layouts of sites you admire. You'll learn a lot about spacing, consistency, and what works. Everyone has gone through this learning curve!

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ll keep pushing forward with these projects.

Focus on creating something that has longevity. Your clients won't be updating their sites frequently, so aim for a solid, timeless design rather than jumping onto every new trend. It's also crucial to maintain communication with your clients; understanding their real needs is a skill that AI can’t replicate, and it’s what makes for good UX.

You might want to consider starting with platforms like Squarespace for your website. It can help you understand why certain designs work before you dive deep into building from scratch. Learning through existing successful sites can lay the groundwork for your skill set. Just be cautious that Squarespace may not meet HIPAA compliance since you’re working with healthcare, which complicates things.

Good point! Unfortunately, I think Squarespace's compliance might be an issue for health-focused sites.
