I was recently down-leveled and received an L4 offer from Amazon. Now, I'm curious if there are any AWS teams that are willing to hire experienced external candidates for L4 positions. Any insights or referrals would be greatly appreciated!

From what I’ve seen, L4 hires are usually fresh graduates. For external hires, they typically look for L5 and above roles. You might have a better chance at those higher levels.
AWS seldom hires experienced folks at L4. Most roles available for that level cater to recent grads. You should look for Associate level positions if you're more experienced.
If you have around 1-1.5 years of experience, there are instances of external candidates joining as L4 SDEs. How many years of experience do you have?
Typically, L4 positions at AWS are filled through university hiring, but occasionally they do consider down-leveled L5 candidates with strong potential. It really depends on why you were down-leveled. If it was due to tech skills, you might face a tougher time. If it was regarding leadership principles, showing how you've been a leader in your roles can open doors. Remember, merely doing your job well isn't enough—you need to actively improve customer experiences and demonstrate your value!
Thanks for the information !!
You can check all the positions listed on Amazon jobs; many are open to external candidates. Even if a specific level isn't mentioned, reviewing job descriptions to find suitable roles for your skills could be beneficial.
I have 5 years of experience.
