Why Can’t I Play Most Games on My Computer Anymore?

I've recently been having trouble running games on my PC. It all started when I played Phasmophobia, which ran fine, but after closing it, my computer became super laggy. Every action, like moving the mouse or opening the Start menu, takes forever. I've tried restarting, updating drivers, unplugging the machine, and even rolled back a recent Windows 11 update, but nothing's worked. I can open Chrome and use YouTube without issues, but when I try to launch any major games like Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends, or Civilization 6, they take ages to load and then crash. It's weird because Phasmophobia works perfectly. I've had this computer for about a year and a half and cleaned it for dust a few months ago. I'm cautious online and have done a malware scan just in case. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Seems like it could be a GPU problem. Consider looking into both hardware issues and driver conflicts. Sometimes it’s just a matter of updating or rolling back drivers to a stable version.

This might sound crazy, but could it be a GPU issue? I had a crash with the latest Nvidia drivers myself. You might want to try running games in borderless mode or disable overlays like Discord and Steam while gaming. It helped me with my crashes before!

First off, try running the Command Prompt as an administrator and type in "sfc /scannow". This will check for corrupted system files. If it finds any issues, I'd recommend doing a RAM test as well. Just hit WIN+R, type "mdsched", and hit enter. If all that checks out, you might want to test Windows on a different SSD to see if it's a hardware issue like with your motherboard or CPU.

Thanks for the tip! I ran the sfc command earlier, and it found corrupted files. I followed some instructions to fix them, but I haven't tested the RAM yet. I’ll do that.

Have you checked to see if your drives are full? Sometimes games can crash or not open properly if there's not enough space available. Just something to double-check!

Good point! I'll take a look at my C: and D: drives.
