Hey everyone! I'm a 19-year-old engineering student starting my second year, and I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now. After finishing my first year, I see my friends jumping ahead with programming languages like Python while I'm just entering the world of Java this semester. With all the news about tech layoffs and a competitive job market, I feel lost about where I should focus my efforts. Should I try learning Python on the side while learning Java in school? How can I avoid burning out or getting more stressed? I'm genuinely eager to learn and build a solid foundation. Any guidance or tips would really help me out!

I totally get where you're coming from! Instead of stressing over learning Python just because your friends are, find something you really want to build. It could be a website or an app—anything that excites you! That way, you'll be motivated to learn the necessary skills organically. Don't worry about being behind; focus on what interests you and just start experimenting!
First off, it's great that you're eager to learn! Focus on your Java classes since that's your current curriculum. It’s important to get that solid understanding. If you feel like you can manage it, learning Python on the side can be beneficial, but make it fun! Try projects that interest you; coding should be enjoyable. And remember, it's totally okay to feel lost sometimes—it's all part of the learning journey. Just don’t compare yourself to others; everyone has their own pace!
Thanks for the advice! I think I’ll try some small projects to see what I enjoy. It's helpful to know that I can learn at my own pace!
