I'm looking for advice on how to manage printer certificates, especially as we're transitioning to EAP-TLS for device authentication. Our setup involves a mix of different printer models, ranging from basic desktop printers to multifunction devices, many of which lack built-in support for certificate management. While SCEP is working well for our IoT devices via our Windows CA, I'm concerned about the future management of around 300 printers that might need replacing. I'd really prefer printers with embedded SCEP support if such a thing exists. If not, what alternatives do you recommend? Is there any other solution or third-party option that could help me avoid the hassle of updating certificates manually each year? I want to steer clear of MAB as a primary option since we seek certificates on every capable device.

We've set up a dedicated VLAN for our printers to handle this situation, which really helps. I totally understand your pain with updating printer certs—it's a nightmare! We recently moved to Printer Logic and ditched our print servers. It’s a game changer! The building map feature lets users easily find and connect to printers, making the process smooth. Plus, licensing per printer helped us cut down on unused machines, shrinking our overall printer count. It's definitely worth exploring alternatives to reduce your fleet.
