I recently built a new PC but am still using my old 3060 TI while waiting for the latest GPUs to become available. Now that I have options, I'm trying to decide which GPU to buy. I want my next card to last me at least 5-6 years and I primarily play at 1440p. I'm not focused on 4K textures, but I play a mix of indie and AAA games, with upcoming titles like Alan Wake 2 and the new Indiana Jones game on my radar. My options currently include the RTX 5070 (€640), RTX 5060 TI 16GB (€475), a used RTX 4070 SUPER (around €550), or a used RX 7900 GRE (about €500). I'm concerned about VRAM; AMD cards offer more, but Nvidia is appealing for its ray tracing and potential DLSS benefits, which I'd like to utilize as games evolve. What do you all think is the best choice?

Honestly, 12GB is decent now for 1440p, especially if you tweak a few settings. But in a couple of years? That may change. The increasing demand from games could make it feel inadequate if you want to play with high settings. Generally, I’d say go for a card with more VRAM if your budget allows it, especially since you plan to use technologies like DLSS and ray tracing.
Yep, being proactive is smart! Even 1-2 years down the line, you might find 12GB isn’t enough for newer titles.
If you're not gaming on ultra 4K, 12GB should be okay for now, but keep in mind the gaming landscape is changing. You might hit a wall where it struggles to keep up, especially if recent trends continue. That said, 1440p gaming with some lowered settings shouldn’t be an issue.
I've heard some games at 1440p are already hitting close to that 10-11GB mark, so it could get tight!
That’s true! Lowering texture settings could be key for getting the most out of your card.
I think for now and the foreseeable future (next few years), 12GB will do fine. Just remember that how well it performs will also depend on optimization and the types of games being released.
Optimization is always hit or miss, but at least with 12GB, you should be mostly safe!
Exactly! Just keep an eye on major titles as they release. It’ll be a balancing act!
12GB VRAM is quite solid, but I wouldn't completely rely on it for the long haul. Think about the next-gen GPUs and how they might impact performance in the next few years! If you're really into playing the latest games at higher settings, consider saving for a card with more VRAM if you can swing it.
Great advice! It’s always better to be safe and go a bit higher if you can!
Exactly! I’d rather invest a little more now than regret it later.
For most games at 1440p, 12GB of VRAM should be sufficient for the next few years! However, it really depends on the games you're playing. Some newer titles, especially with ray tracing, might push that limit sooner than later. Keep in mind that there are already some games that struggle at ultra settings with less than 12GB. If you're looking to future-proof a bit, consider going for 16GB if it's within budget.
True! I think 12GB will do fine initially, but if you're planning to keep it long-term, 16GB might be wise.
I've heard some upcoming games might demand more VRAM, so I’d lean towards 16GB just in case!
Exactly! It's all about staying ahead of the curve, especially as devs push the limits.
