I'm looking to install Linux on my older computer to speed it up, and I've heard that Kubuntu is beginner-friendly. Do you think it's a good option? Any recommendations for other lightweight distributions?

Kubuntu, along with Pop!_OS and Ubuntu, are known for being user-friendly. However, because you're on an older machine, it might not be the best fit due to its resource-intensive desktop environment.
If your RAM is low, I’d recommend checking out Mint XFCE or Mint MATE; they're even more beginner-friendly and lighter.
It really depends on how old your computer is. If it’s from the last 10 years, you should be fine running modern distros like Kubuntu. But if it's older, especially around the Vista era, I suggest lighter options. Also, modify the specs if you can—like adding RAM or SSDs—to get a better performance.
You might want to try running it from a live USB first to see how it feels on your system before fully installing it.
What would you suggest instead?
