Why is my 180Hz monitor stuck at 120Hz?

I recently bought the Xiaomi G24i monitor, and I'm facing an issue where I can't get the refresh rate to go above 120Hz. I'm using an HDMI cable with my laptop that has a Ryzen 5 4500U processor. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this limitation, but nothing seems to work. Could it be that my processor can't support more than 120Hz?

Your issue likely lies in the cable you’re using. If it’s not up to spec with either HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 2.1, you won’t be able to hit that 180Hz refresh rate. Also, check if you're using the correct port on your laptop—some might be limited.

Don't worry, your processor isn’t the issue here. It’s more about the cable or connection type. Have you confirmed that you’ve adjusted the refresh rate in your settings to 180Hz? That could also be a potential oversight.

It sounds like the problem might be with your HDMI cable. If you’re using an HDMI 1.4 cable, that would limit you to 120Hz. Make sure to switch to an HDMI 2.0 or even HDMI 2.1 cable to unlock the full capabilities of your monitor.

Most likely it's the HDMI cable you're using. If you're using the one that came with the monitor, make sure it's HDMI 2.0 or better. Also, if you're just trying to change it in settings and it's not applying, you might need to adjust some options in your graphics settings.
