Just started as a System Engineer—looking for DevOps career advice

Hey everyone! I recently landed my first job as a System Engineer, where I'm focusing on system administration, basic Linux, and networking skills. I'm really interested in eventually transitioning into DevOps because I love the idea of automation, working with CI/CD pipelines, and exploring cloud platforms. However, I'm feeling a bit anxious about the coding part. I'm comfortable with basic scripting, but anything more complex seems a bit daunting. Here's a quick rundown of what I currently know: I'm good with Linux (like user management, permissions, and disk management), I have basic understanding of cloud concepts (especially AWS fundamentals), and I have some exposure to shell scripting, SQL, and Excel from a previous job. I'm looking for feedback on: which DevOps tools or platforms to start learning first (like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.), how much coding I realistically need to master for a successful DevOps career, a recommended learning path that won't overwhelm me, and any tips on how to build a DevOps portfolio as a beginner.

The coding requirements can really differ based on the company. In my current job, for example, I spend about 90% of my time on architecture and operations, with just 10% on coding. But I've heard of positions where they expect you to be a full-stack developer as a DevOps Engineer.

That's interesting! But if programming isn't my strength, what should I focus on instead?
