How Can I Lower My Laptop’s CPU Usage to Reduce Fan Noise?

I just got my hands on a used laptop with a solid CPU (6900HX), and while it handles everything quite well, I'm worried about its longevity. Most of my games run smoothly since they're older, but the fan gets really loud during usage. I want to lower the CPU performance a bit to keep the noise down, as I'm aware that it's an AMD model and should have options for that. Any suggestions on how to achieve this?

It might be a good idea to check if the fan is dying or just needs a deep clean. Sounds like it could be both contributing to the noise. If it's only loud during gaming, that might be a sign it's working extra hard, but normal tasks aren't causing it to struggle at all.

Yeah, if it only revs up during gaming, that's pretty normal. Your everyday browsing shouldn't stress it much.

Head into your Power Plan Settings and find the Advanced Power Settings. You can adjust the processor power management to set the maximum processor state below 100%. This should help reduce fan noise, but it won't really prolong the laptop's life significantly.

True, I mainly want to prevent the CPU from overheating when I'm gaming.

Have you thought about cleaning out the internals and potentially reapplying thermal paste? It’s usually a good first step to improve cooling before you limit performance.
