Is a Dedicated PCIe WiFi Card Worth It for Better Signal?

I have a GIGABYTE B650 Eagle AX motherboard with built-in WiFi, but I'm noticing that my WiFi signal is significantly weaker than other devices in the same room, especially during peak times. I'm wondering if getting a dedicated PCIe WiFi card with standalone antennas would improve my signal strength. If that's the case, what features should I look for in a new card?

Your motherboard's built-in WiFi is actually pretty decent, but the antennas might not be working properly. Check if you have the antennas connected to the back of your PC! If you're still having issues after that, then yes, a dedicated PCIe card usually offers better performance.

Oh man, I forgot to check that! How could I not notice I didn’t have antennas installed? Thanks for the heads up!

Haha, happens to the best of us! Just remember to position those antennas for optimal signal!

If you do go the dedicated card route, look for one with high gain antennas and support for the latest WiFi standards, like WiFi 6, for better performance. Just make sure it's compatible with your motherboard!

It's also worth considering your router. If it’s older or not high-capacity, it might struggle with multiple devices streaming or gaming. Sometimes getting a new router or even going wired can solve a lot of connectivity issues.
