How Can I Protect My Laptop from Keyloggers During Repairs?

I'm planning to take my laptop to a local repair shop for some maintenance. I've already installed VeraCrypt to secure my drive, but I'm feeling a bit uneasy about the possibility of keyloggers being installed while they're working on it. I don't really think they'll try anything underhanded, but I still want to be cautious. Is there any reliable software available to prevent keyloggers? Also, would it be sufficient to create a temporary repair account without admin rights to keep my main account safe?

Backing up your entire machine before taking it in is a good precaution. That way, if anything goes wrong or if you notice changes, you have everything saved. It's always better to be safe, especially with your personal data.

If you're really paranoid, consider creating an MD5 checksum of your whole disk and checking it once you get your laptop back. This way, you can see if anything has been modified while it was under repair.

That’s true, but remember, even routine tasks like checking for Windows updates can alter a lot of system files, and it may not reveal the exact changes made.

Exactly! Just turning it on could lead to changes in some files. So while the checksum is a good idea, it won't necessarily pinpoint every modification.
