I have an iPad Air (4th generation) running iOS 18.6.2, and I'm looking to lend it to my elderly relative who is currently in hospital. Since he's in an isolation ward, I want to set it up in a way that helps him stay connected with family and keep him entertained without overwhelming him. Ideally, I would like to create a simple user profile on my iPad that restricts his access to a few specific apps like FaceTime and a couple of games. I'm considering using my Apple ID so I can easily add any apps he might find interesting. My main question is: can I add another user profile under the same Apple ID, or even set up a restricted profile for him?

You can't set up a limit profile under the same Apple ID, unfortunately. The best path might be to create a new Apple ID for him, which is allowed. You can add him to your Apple Family sharing so you can still approve any purchases he wants to make.
Unfortunately, you can't create multiple user profiles on your iPad unless it's a device managed by a school or business. Apple doesn't offer that feature for personal devices. One workaround is that if your relative can share their Apple ID with you, you might be able to hide unwanted apps in the App Library and install only the essential ones he needs.
That makes sense, but he doesn't have any Apple credentials. He’s never used an Apple device before, which is why I was hoping my Apple ID could help.

Does it take a lot of time to set up a new Apple ID for him? I just want to make sure it's not too complicated.
