I own an HP laptop with 4GB of RAM, and it seems like my RAM usage is sitting at a whopping 90% right from the start, without any applications open. I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on how I might be able to fix this issue. I can't upgrade the RAM as it's soldered to the motherboard, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Honestly, 4GB of RAM is pretty low for today’s standards, especially with Windows 10 or 11. You might not find a solid fix other than cutting down on unnecessary software and disabling startup programs. That could help a bit till you can upgrade.
If you're open to switching operating systems, you might want to consider trying a Linux distro like Linux Mint or Ubuntu. They can be lighter on resources and may handle your RAM better, but definitely research them first to see if they fit your needs!
Just be sure to backup your data before making the switch!
If adding RAM isn’t an option because it’s soldered, cleaning up your software and managing your processes will be vital. Try uninstalling anything that isn’t essential for what you do.
It sounds like your laptop is struggling, especially if you're running a modern OS since they tend to eat up RAM. Have you checked for any background processes that might be running? You can do that in the Task Manager. Also, see if there’s an empty RAM slot, but be cautious if you decide to open it up. Maybe try switching to lighter software while you’re working on this.
Totally agree! Most users don’t realize how many background applications are running and using up memory.
And don’t forget to check your startup items; that could free up some RAM right from the start!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into that.
