Struggling with Coding – Is It Just My Mindset or a Real Barrier?

Hey everyone! I'm a sophomore in college, and I've been having a tough time with coding. I initially started learning Python and really liked it, but I hit a wall when it came to understanding loops. Despite watching tons of videos and tackling coding problems, I just can't seem to get over that hurdle. I'm a visual and linguistic learner, but nothing seems to work for me. I've recently decided to switch to C++, and while I'm enjoying it, I still worry that coding might never truly click for me.

My ultimate goal is to get into Fin-Tech, and I'm double-majoring in Financial Economics and Computer Science, but I feel like I'm lagging behind my peers and it's really frustrating. However, I'm determined to improve my coding skills! I want to participate in a hackathon in my junior year, and I've even started a project. I'd appreciate any advice or personal experiences that could help me out. If you have suggestions for projects too, please share!

It sounds like you're really dedicated! One solid way to grasp coding is to pick a project that excites you. Whether it's building a website or creating an app, working on a tangible goal makes the learning stick. If you just focus on coding problems, it’s like trying to learn guitar by only practicing scales—you're missing out on the fun!

Totally agree! A personal project gives you context which makes everything much clearer. Just make sure to build on what you learn as you go.
