I'm fairly new to Linux, having switched from Windows just a couple of months ago. Now that the latest version of Linux Mint has been released, I'd like to know what the safest way is to upgrade my system. Any tips would be appreciated!

You can upgrade in a couple of ways. If you have a separate partition for your /home directory, the cleaner method is to do a reinstall using a live CD. This will take longer since you'll need to reinstall your software too. The faster method is to modify your sources and repos using Mint's built-in utility. You can try these commands in the terminal:

`sudo apt install mintupgrade`

Then run:

`sudo mintupgrade`

This way, you can upgrade without too much hassle!

Just a quick note, using mintupgrade is mostly for major version jumps. Since 22.2 is just a minor update from 22.1, you might not need it! It's started showing up on some systems recently, so hang tight if you don’t see it right away.

The new version, 22.2, is still in beta stage right now, so it hasn't officially launched yet. Once it's ready, you should get a prompt when you boot up your PC. If you don’t see anything, check your System Reports in the start menu to see if it prompts you for the upgrade. Typically, the updates are stable and shouldn't cause any major issues, but if something does go wrong, make sure to report it to the Mint devs!
