Thinking About Building a PC – Need Some Guidance!

Hey everyone! I'm considering building a PC for myself. Just to give you some context, I'm not really into gaming much, but I do want a solid setup that can last me into the future. The only game I'm really excited about is GTA VI, which I know won't be available on PC until late 2026 or 2027.

A friend is offering to sell me his RX 6900 XT for $400, and that's sparked my interest in building a PC. I'm also planning to sell my MacBook Air M1 and my PS5, which has been sitting unopened since I recently moved. I'll be using this setup with my G4 OLED.

My main questions are: Should I hold off on building until closer to the game release? I'm worried about my MacBook or PS5 losing more value. And if I do build it now, what CPU should I pair with the GPU to ensure I don't bottleneck it but still get good value? I definitely don't want anything overkill. Thanks a bunch for your advice!

The RX 6900 XT for $400 is an enticing offer, but I'd recommend holding off on building your PC for a year or two. By then, you'll likely be able to get better performance for the same price. Plus, the depreciation on your PS5 will be minimal with GTA VI coming out. It's not worth rushing into a build for a game that's still a few years away.

Appreciate it! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I know very little about tech releases for CPUs or GPUs, so I’ll definitely be waiting!

Yeah, the PS5 isn't going to lose much value honestly given the hype for GTA VI.

I would actually think twice about selling your PS5. If GTA VI is your main interest, it's worth noting that Rockstar usually delays PC versions by a year after console releases. You could just enjoy it on the PS5 now and not rush into building a PC when the only game you want to play is still years away.

I can definitely wait for GTA. Plus, my PS5 is just collecting dust. I think it's better to hold off on building for now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Exactly! Holding off on the PC build might save you money for better parts later.
