Hey everyone! I'm currently using my old Galaxy S8 as a Wi-Fi hotspot for my PC, but it's only connecting at 2.4 GHz, which has been a bit slow and congested. I'm looking to boost my connection by switching to 5 GHz for better speed and less interference. Does anyone know if I can force the hotspot to run on 5 GHz? If yes, could you guide me on where to find that setting in the menus? Thanks a lot!

If you're using the latest One UI, head to Settings > Connections > Hotspot and Tethering. Turn on the hotspot, but make sure to turn off Wi-Fi first. Then tap on the hotspot toggle area—not the toggle itself—and look for the band option to switch it to "5 GHz preferred." That should help!
You might not be able to force it to 5 GHz since the 2.4 GHz band is usually the default setting. However, there are ways to check for options in your settings that might allow a change.
Thanks for the input! But isn't there any way to bypass that default setting, like rooting the phone?
From what I know, it might actually be a hardware limitation. The S8 has to be able to support broadcasting on that band to begin with, so check if your device can handle 5 GHz.
I came across some advice online that suggested using certain settings might help. Those options could be hidden, so it's worth exploring all areas in the menu!
Thanks for your help! I dug into the settings, but the bandwidth function still doesn’t show up for me.

I tried that method, but the option for the bandwidth seems to be missing! It's like it just vanished into thin air!
