What Should I Ask My ISP to Fix My Xbox Online Gaming Issues?

I'm having some frustrating issues with my Xbox One when it comes to online gaming. Whenever I try to join certain lobbies or have someone join mine, the connection fails. However, I can play in open lobbies without any problems. I've reached out to Ubisoft, and they mentioned I need to change my NAT type from strict to open. I keep hearing terms like static IP, UPnP, and port opening, but I have no clue what these mean or what I need to tell my ISP. Could someone help clarify what all of this entails and exactly what I should be asking my ISP to do?

I've dealt with similar issues before on Xbox Live! Most of the fixes can be done through your router settings. Make sure UPnP is enabled, and try opening the correct ports (I think Xbox Live uses ports 3070 and 3074). You shouldn’t necessarily have to call your ISP for this. Just access your router settings and adjust what you need there. It's usually pretty straightforward!

So here's the scoop on NAT: your router helps manage connections between your devices and the internet, but sometimes it can block incoming traffic unless it's configured correctly. Port forwarding is a way to tell your router to allow specific types of traffic from certain ports to reach your console. UPnP helps automate this process, but it can be disabled for security reasons. You might also be dealing with CG-NAT from your ISP, which means you can’t change these settings directly. If that’s the case, definitely ask your ISP for a static IP. Also, don't stress about DNS or IPv6 unless you know your setup supports it. The main focus should be ensuring your NAT settings are correct!

It sounds like your ISP might be using something called CG-NAT, which can really mess with your gaming connection. You might need to either switch ISPs or pay for a static IP address from your current provider. Either option should help you get a more stable connection for gaming.
