Hey everyone! I'm looking to install Linux on my Acer Chromebook 14 but I'm not sure where to start. My only experience with Linux is from using a Steam Deck, and everything else has been either Windows or macOS. What's the best way to get a distro running on my Chromebook, and which one would you recommend for a beginner?

Also, I have an Acer Nitro 5 that I use for gaming; if anyone has suggestions for a Windows 11 alternative that would let me keep gaming without the hassles of Windows, I'd appreciate it!

For your Chromebook, check out mrchromebox.tech! It’s a coreboot distribution that gives you a UEFI setup like on regular PCs, and from there, you can install any Linux distro you prefer.

Regarding your Nitro 5, it depends on your needs. If you want something simple and solid, I’d recommend Bazzite. It’s based on Fedora and uses a framework called Universal Blue, making it quite robust and hard to mess up. There are tons of options, but sticking with one that feels right is the way to go!

Thanks a lot! I've tried searching for steps to get my Chromebook ready for installation, but I keep running into errors. I’ll definitely look into that!

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but a big part of using Linux is figuring things out on your own. If you had searched for "installing Linux on Acer Chromebook 14," you would've found plenty of guides and forums with helpful details.

I did search, but I couldn't get it to work, which is why I came here for help. Instead of finding guidance, I just found gatekeeping, which wasn’t helpful.
