I'm looking for advice on finding an online coding tutor for my 13-year-old, who's super interested in Python and game development. We want to keep his momentum going, but we're not after anything too intense like bootcamps. Ideally, we'd like someone who can meet weekly, answer questions, and guide him through projects in a fun way. He's explored Scratch and Roblox Studio, and is now getting into beginner Python and Unity. Are there any reliable online tutoring options specifically tailored for middle and high schoolers? I've seen some platforms, but it's challenging to figure out what's trustworthy. Any recommendations for tutors or programs would be greatly appreciated!

You might have the best luck reaching out through your personal network. Sometimes, a friend of a friend might know a college student who’s into programming and looking for some tutoring work. It can be a game changer!
We found a tutor through our local university who offered both live group classes and private sessions. The live classes focused on Python and computer science topics, while the private tutoring catered to individualized needs. My son loved it and now has a career in engineering—those lessons really helped him out!
Do you know if that tutor is still available? I want to support my kid’s coding journey as much as possible.
If you’re looking for structured online coding help for kids, iD Tech is a solid option! They provide 1-on-1 tutoring focused on Python, Unity, game development, and more. It’s project-based learning, which keeps it engaging without being overwhelming.
This sounds perfect! Do you have to sign up for a whole year, or can you go week by week?
Hey! I’ve taught Python in the Online Code in Place program and currently tutor various students. I usually start with a trial session to see if we click, and my rate is $30 per hour. We can take it slow or fast based on what you prefer! Let me know if you're interested.
Does it have to be a tutor specifically? There are many great asynchronous coding courses out there that could be really beneficial.
That was my first thought too, but no luck finding anyone. That's why I'm leaning toward online options.
