Should I Upgrade Office or Get a New Laptop Now That Windows 10 Support is Ending?

Hey everyone! I just received a notice that my Office subscription will be deactivated at the end of the month, coinciding with the end of Windows 10 support. I'm torn between whether I should upgrade to a new Office home license, go for Office home and business (I'm considering this for Outlook), or check out the subscription options. Is the extra $100 for Office home and business worth it?

My current laptop is a Lenovo L380 Yoga from 2018, running an Intel Core i5-7200U CPU, and it can't be upgraded to Windows 11. So I'm left wondering: should I just buy a new PC and get a fresh Office subscription, upgrade my Office on the current Windows 10 setup, or perhaps switch to alternatives like LibreOffice or WPS? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Honestly, you might consider ditching Windows and switching to Linux. It's free and runs well on older hardware. Plus, you’ll have community support, and it’s regularly updated and secured!

But can you still join Teams meetings on Linux? That's really important for me.

Is Linux even good for business apps like Teams?

Since your laptop is kinda old, you can keep using Windows for another year by paying $30 for OneDrive, which gives you access to Office 365 for a year. That way, you can save for a new laptop in the meantime!

That's a good idea! Just remember, there's also the option to switch to Linux and use open-source software like LibreOffice.

I noticed a deal on a ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 for $1,100. It's 35% off from $1,700. Should I grab it now or wait for Black Friday in case it gets cheaper?

It really boils down to your budget. If you're low on cash, consider forcing the upgrade to Windows 11 since your CPU is technically supported. Just remember that you'll need to do manual installs for feature updates. Also, you could trial LibreOffice for free to see if it meets your needs. There's a one-year ESU for Windows 10 too, so that's another option!

I saw that deal for the ThinkPad too! Should I jump on it or hold out for better discounts?
