Why am I getting a SPC Watchdog BSOD when connecting my PC to my TV?

Hey everyone! I've been dealing with a frustrating issue. Whenever I connect my brand new built PC, which has an RTX 5070 graphics card, to my LG OLED TV via HDMI, my PC freezes and restarts. I get this annoying SPC Watchdog BSOD. This only happens when I connect the TV, and I've already tried different HDMI cables. Interestingly, the same issue also popped up on my other PC, which makes me question if the problem lies with my TV. I've updated all drivers and the BIOS. I've even taken minidumps from Windows 11, which I can share. Any advice or ideas would be super helpful!

It sounds like a driver or possibly a GPU issue. The SPC Watchdog is like a teacher in class checking if the computer is responding. If it doesn't respond on time, you get a violation. Since you've tried several HDMI cables and it’s happened on a different PC too, I’d dig into the graphics drivers first and make sure they’re fully up to date. You might also want to check if there's any firmware update available for your TV that could help with compatibility.

I've experienced similar issues before, and updating the TV's firmware often resolved it for me, so that's worth a shot!

Yeah, it's possible for the TV to send corrupted data back to the PC over HDMI, causing this kind of issue. If possible, try using a different input on the TV or even a different HDMI port to see if that changes anything. Also, using Safe Mode to check the minidumps could help narrow down whether it’s the PC or the TV causing the problems.

I’m totally in the same boat! I’ll try switching HDMI ports on the TV and see if that helps.

Definitely check the minidumps! They can give you a better idea of what's actually causing the BSOD. You can find them in the C:WindowsMinidump folder. Make sure to upload multiple dump files to get a clearer picture. Sometimes these issues can stem from weird communication errors between the GPU and the TV, especially with supported resolutions and refresh rates. Just because it’s happening on different PCs doesn't entirely rule out the TV being the culprit.

That’s true! The TV and GPU need to communicate correctly, and a corrupted signal might throw everything off, leading to a BSOD.
