Hey folks,
I recently upgraded my PC with a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB and I'm running into some frustrating issues. Here's the scoop on my setup:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB (used)
- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus WiFi
- PSU: NZXT C750 (750W modular)
- Storage: 2x 500GB NVMe SSDs
- Case: Zalman X3
After installing the 3070 and connecting it with two separate PCIe cables (one 8-pin and one 6-pin), I set up a custom fan curve using MSI Afterburner. My idle temperatures are decent (around 52°C), but whenever I kick off a game like FiveM or run a benchmark like Unigine Heaven, the GPU fan goes wild, the monitor goes black, and I have to restart my PC to get the display back.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Double-checked the PCIe cable connections from the PSU
- Adjusted the fan curve in MSI Afterburner
- Reinstalled drivers using DDU and Windows Update
I haven't replaced the thermal paste on the used GPU yet, so I'm wondering if that could play a part in this. Has anyone faced a similar issue with the RTX 3070? Any thoughts on whether it could be a power delivery issue, airflow concerns, or if I should consider repasting the GPU? Any help would be appreciated! 🙏

I wouldn’t jump to thinking it’s the GPU just yet. If the seller has a good reputation, it might be something else. Make sure those power cables are connected snugly, and don’t forget to check for any BIOS updates on your motherboard.
Have you considered that the GPU might be defective? Since it’s a used unit and the only change in your setup, it could definitely be the culprit. Also, ensure that your motherboard's BIOS is fully updated and check that the PCIe power cables are securely connected both at the GPU and the PSU.
