Could my phone have given my boss malware after she used my hotspot?

I let my boss connect to my phone's hotspot because our Wi-Fi was down for maintenance, and it only lasted about 10 minutes. After she connected with her second phone, she got logged out of Facebook on that device but not on her first phone. Strangely, a mysterious profile called 'Luiz /something/' showed up in her Facebook account. I'm worried that my phone might have a virus and that she could have picked something up from me. To provide some context: I do have modified apps, and I was using one during this time which malfunctioned, but it should have been working offline. I use a VPN occasionally, but not at that time. So far, I haven't noticed any suspicious activity on my phone. My phone's security app didn't find any issues, and there were no notifications about attempted logins on her Facebook. What are the chances that this strange profile appeared due to a virus?

Your boss might just be freaking out for no reason. Sometimes, Facebook can log you out for various technical glitches. The profile popping up doesn’t automatically mean spyware; it could just be an algorithmic suggestion or even a glitch! Just because she visited your hotspot doesn’t mean she’s infected. It’s smart to check but don’t stress too much.

Yeah, it sounds like she's just being overly cautious. Facebook can be a little quirky.

There's actually zero chance she got malware from connecting to your hotspot. If both devices were updated regularly, then the risk is minimal. Profiles showing up can happen for various harmless reasons. Just ensure your apps are safe and maybe suggest she double-checks her Facebook privacy settings!

Exactly! Plus, it could be something innocent like a new friend suggestion or related profiles.

Honestly, it’s unlikely that your phone actually gave her any malware just from the hotspot connection. Connecting to a mobile hotspot doesn’t transmit malware unless some significant vulnerabilities are present in the devices. It sounds more probable that her Facebook logged her out for security reasons because it detected a new or untrusted network. That mysterious profile is weird, but it’s not a sure sign of malware on your device. Just keep your phone's apps updated and stay aware.

You learned a valuable lesson though – always be cautious when sharing your connection!

Right? I mean, if she was logged out just because of a different network, that makes more sense.

Thanks for reassuring me! I'm definitely more careful now.
