Why is my internet speed so slow despite paying for high-speed service?

I've been experiencing really slow internet speeds, and it's frustrating. I pay for a 1GB plan, but when I do multiple speed tests on my phone and laptop, I only get around 3 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up, with a ping of 599. Interestingly, when I test my Google mesh setup throughout the house, the speeds are good—around 650 Mbps down and 850 Mbps up. I'm wondering if the speeds from Speedtest are more accurate since I've been having trouble streaming on my TV. Any idea what could be causing these issues?

It sounds like your mesh network might not be set up correctly. Many people buy mesh systems and overlook proper configuration. Make sure your mesh is the only device broadcasting and check if your ISP's modem/router is still active. If it's not in bridge mode or if WiFi isn't turned off, that could definitely cause slow speeds.

Check your mesh system and see if everything is configured properly; it could help resolve the issue.

I've had this setup for years with no issues, and it's just been slow for the past few days.

You might want to try connecting your laptop directly to your router using an Ethernet cable, if possible. This will help you determine whether the issue is with your WiFi or the router itself. It's a good way to get a clear picture of what's really going on with your connection.

Unfortunately, my laptop doesn’t have an Ethernet port.

That's a bummer! Maybe try testing other devices instead.

It could also be a WiFi issue. Consider turning off your phone and all other WiFi devices for about five minutes, then rebooting them. This can help refresh the connections and possibly pick less congested channels for your WiFi.
