I'm currently using a LiveCD session of Xubuntu and I'm looking to install Nvidia's proprietary GPU drivers. However, all the guides I've found say I need to reboot after installation, which isn't possible in a live session. Is there a way to get these drivers working without a reboot?

Can’t you just create a persistent bootable USB instead? That way, you could install the Nvidia drivers and keep your changes without needing to reboot. Just a suggestion!
Unfortunately, you can't install the Nvidia drivers on a LiveCD session and bypass the reboot. When you install the drivers, the new kernel modules need to load, but since you're running a live session, the old modules can't be unloaded, causing everything to freeze up. What you might want to look into is a LiveCD that already has the Nvidia drivers included, rather than relying on the open-source options.
I don’t think it’s possible either, but maybe someone else here has a workaround? It seems like a persistent installation might help, but you’d need to start fresh with a USB stick or something. Just a thought!
I’m actually booting from a DVD-RW, so I'm not sure if that's an option for me.
