Help! My PC Won’t Boot After Installing Linux Mint

I recently decided to install Linux Mint Cinnamon on an old HP laptop to give Linux a shot. After live-booting and installing it (and getting rid of Windows 8), the laptop won't recognize the OS at all—it just keeps asking me to insert boot media. I tried reinstalling it from live mode and the installer noted that Linux Mint is already installed, but the laptop still can't access it. What should I do to resolve this issue and get my laptop working again? Thanks for any assistance!

It sounds like the Linux boot loader might have been installed in a partition rather than in the master boot record. You can fix this, but it might be simpler to just do a reinstall. Just make sure to pay close attention to the boot loader installation options next time you set it up.

Thanks for the advice! If I reinstall, how can I make certain it goes into the master boot record this time? This is my first time trying to set this up.
