Thinking About Switching to Linux, What Should I Know First?

I'm a complete beginner looking to switch from Windows before my Win10 license expires, and I have a few questions. I have no experience with scripting, programming, or any coding at all; will I actually have a smooth experience as a newbie? Also, should I choose a Linux distribution that mimics Windows and run my backed-up Windows programs using WINE, or is that too resource-intensive? Are there beginner-friendly distros that work well with WINE?

I mainly use Windows for art, web browsing, and occasional gaming on Steam. My main software includes Zbrush, Blender, Krita, and Unreal Engine 5, and I also do some 3D printing with Lychee slicer. I understand that Linux distros generally have less bloat compared to Windows, so now I just need to find the right one for my specific needs.

Most Linux distros are more similar than people think! If you're diving into Linux, I'd recommend Fedora, Linux Mint, or OpenSUSE, with Mint being the most user-friendly. For that Windows-like feel, go for the KDE desktop environment. You should be fine with gaming and web browsing, though keep in mind that games with anti-cheat systems won't run on Linux, like Fortnite or Valorant. As for your art software, Zbrush and UE5 might take some extra effort to get running on Linux, but the others like Blender and Krita work natively. Don't stress too much about programming—if you can use Google, you'll manage just fine! You can even test distros in a virtual machine.

I'm worried about the anti-cheat too; I'm all about playing Warframe solo. Guess I'll need to hunt down some guides.
