Will my CPU be safe in its clamshell if it gets wet during shipping?

I recently bought a used AM4 CPU, and the seller shipped it in a basic letter envelope. My mailbox has a tendency to leak when it rains, so I'm really worried about potential water damage. If the envelope and the clamshell it came in get soaked, how much trouble can I expect for the CPU?

As long as it doesn't end up in a river, it'll likely be fine. Just make sure it's dry before powering it up!

I'd be more concerned about physical damage due to shipping than water damage. As long as the CPU is clean and dry when you install it, it should be alright.

Seriously, who ships a CPU in a simple envelope? That's pretty risky!

Water usually isn't a problem unless the CPU is powered. If it does get wet, just dry it off completely before you install it. No worries!

It's pretty unlikely that a little water will damage the CPU. Just make sure to wipe it off if it gets wet. The key is to not let it sit wet for too long.
