I accidentally spilled olive oil on my monitor when a bottle broke, and now there's some oil inside the screen. I managed to dry out as much as I could by taking off the back panel, but when I turned it on, I saw that there's still quite a bit of oil lingering inside. Is there a safe way to remove the oil from inside the monitor without causing any damage to the screen?

Honestly, if you've got oil inside the monitor, your best bet might be to consider replacing it. Some folks suggest taking it to an eWaste container and getting a new monitor instead of trying to clean it out.
You could try using isopropyl alcohol on the screen but it really depends on where the oil is located. If it's between the protective layer and the LCD, you might be able to open it up and clean it directly.
Have you thought about using compressed air? The oil is slippery, so blowing it out with enough pressure might help slide it off the screen. But honestly, don’t expect to get every last trace of the olive oil out.
If you're feeling ambitious, yes, you can disassemble the monitor! Just be careful, you'll need to clean the diffuser and polarizer sheets along with the LCD itself before putting it all back together. Just don’t mess with the power supply!
