Making the Switch to Linux: Questions About Migration

I'm really frustrated with the direction Microsoft is going and want to fully switch to Linux. I'm completely new to it, and I have a few key questions before I make the leap. Just for backstory, I have a 1TB OneDrive subscription and a 500GB Proton drive. My plan is to move my desktop files to Proton, delete my Steam games and redownload them on the new Linux system.

1. **OPSEC (Operational Security):** If I want to prioritize strong security, should I get a new device and boot Linux from there, or can I just download it on my current SSD? Would dual booting be a wise option?

2. **Outlook and Office Suite:** I have Proton email. Should I switch all my accounts to Proton before migrating to Linux? I often use Excel and Word—are there similar alternatives available on Linux?

3. **Functionality:** I have a Feather wallet, Trezor, and Ledger. Can I install those apps on Linux? Also, I do a lot of stock research; are the web browsers on Linux comparable in functionality to what I'm used to?

1. For OPSEC, you can stick with your current SSD, but booting from a live USB to try out different distros first is a great idea. If you really want an extra layer of security, you could install Linux on a new device later.
2. You can definitely switch to Proton Mail, and for Office tasks, I recommend LibreOffice or OnlyOffice for document editing. You can also use the web version of Office 365 if you're okay with that.
3. Good news! All your wallet apps have Linux versions, and you can use any major browser on Linux for your stock research. This means you won’t miss out on functionality! I suggest going with Linux Mint; it’s user-friendly and perfect for accessing your essential apps.

I’m actually setting up Linux Mint right now! Planning to switch everything over eventually. I do still need Outlook and Teams for my classes. I figured I could use the web versions, so that should work, right?
