Are My Power Supply Unit and Graphics Card Compatible?

I'm building my PC today and trying to figure out if my power supply unit (PSU) is compatible with my graphics card (GPU). I've noticed that my GPU has a 3x8 pin power connector, but my PSU only came with 2 PCIe cables that are 6+2 splitters. My GPU manual warns against using both ends of a splitter on a single power connection. Is it essential for me to order another PCIe cable or can I work with what I've got? Sorry if this seems like a silly question!

You can use one of your PCIe cables as is and the other with a pigtail. Just be aware that one pigtail will be left unused. It should work fine, but double-check to make sure it doesn't violate your GPU's power requirements.

Is that really safe? My GPU's manual explicitly says that using both ends of a splitter on one power connector could potentially cause damage.
