Hey folks! I've got an Asus ROG Strix X870-A motherboard and I'm not planning to use all of its M.2 slots. For the slots I'm leaving empty, should I take off the blue protective film sitting on top of the motherboard heatsinks, or is it better to leave it as is?

Definitely leave it on! It protects the thermal pads from collecting dust, which could be a hassle to clean if you decide to install an M.2 drive later.

I would suggest keeping it. Dust can accumulate on those pads, and no heat means you're fine leaving the protective cover in place.

I wouldn’t remove the cover. Keeping it on will help ensure you don't have to deal with dust buildup later, especially if you decide to use that slot for an upgrade or troubleshooting down the line.

You really can leave it on unless you're planning to use that slot right away. It's just a precaution to keep things clean until you need it.
