Help! My new iMac is locked due to a previous Apple ID

I just purchased my first iMac, and although it seemed to be working perfectly at first, I'm now facing an issue. It keeps prompting me for an Apple ID that doesn't belong to me. The seller was helpful during the transaction, but now that I'm home, they aren't responding to my calls or texts. I'm really worried that I've lost my 700€ investment—what can I do?

It sounds like you might have bought a stolen Mac. Devices can be marked as lost or stolen, which is why it's asking for the previous owner's Apple ID. You should definitely report this to the police and the platform where you found the seller. It's a good way to protect yourself and possibly get your money back.

Unfortunately, if the seller can't unlock the iCloud, it’s pretty much a paperweight at this point. You could try reaching out to Apple support for guidance, but if it's truly lost or stolen, that might not help much.

You really should check if the device is marked as lost. If the seller doesn't help you unlock it, your iMac might end up being unusable. If you paid electronically, consider disputing the payment.
