Did I Mess Up by Inserting an M.2 Drive While My Computer Was On?

I recently built a new PC using an Asus ROG Strix B850-A motherboard and a Samsung M.2 drive. In a moment of forgetfulness, I accidentally inserted the M.2 drive while the computer was still powered on. I've read that this could cause serious issues, but everything seems to be working fine. Should I be worried about any potential damage?

Honestly, it’s pretty hard to accidentally install an M.2 drive while the computer's on. There are just too many steps involved, and you’d typically notice before you got that far. But hey, if your computer is still running fine, maybe you got lucky!

Right? I mean, you gotta unscrew and everything—definitely not a quick move.

If everything works, you’re probably in the clear. Just learn from this mistake and make sure to research hot-swappable components next time before messing with them!

M.2 slots aren’t designed for hotplugging, so you might have dodged a bullet this time. Just keep an eye on it. If the drive or slot goes bad down the line, you know what to blame!

For sure, I won’t be trusting it with anything important without backups!
