I'm experiencing this annoying error code 0xc0000142 every time I plug in my controller on Windows 11. I just want to enjoy my games, but this operating system is making it incredibly frustrating. I've tried various solutions I found online, but none of them worked. I'm even considering completely reinstalling the OS, which is something I'd like to avoid if possible. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

I get your frustration! It sounds like you’re dealing with a weird compatibility issue. Sometimes older controllers don’t play too nicely with newer OS versions. My suggestion would be to try different USB ports or check if there are any driver updates for your controller on the manufacturer's website. If all else fails, using a different controller could save you some headaches until you get this sorted!

It sounds like this error happens because an application is trying to start when you connect your controller but fails to do so. You should check the Windows Event Viewer under 'Windows Logs' and look at the 'Application' log around the time the error occurs. This might give you clues about which app is causing the trouble. No idea why it’s acting up though! What controller are you using? Is the error popping up immediately after you plug it in, or when you start a game? Also, have you tried without the controller connected?

If you're annoyed with Windows 11 and have considered switching to Linux, it might be a good fit for you. Just make sure you weigh all your options before making that leap. Good luck, and remember, you can always come back if you decide to switch!
