How can I safely clean the dust out of my PC?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind with my PC and could really use some guidance. I had a friend build it for me about three years ago, but we've had a falling out, and now I'm stuck without anyone knowledgeable to help. I haven't been a great PC owner — it was tucked away under my desk, and I never cleaned it. Recently, I noticed it won't turn on, and when I opened it up, I was shocked by the amount of dust inside. I didn't even know regular maintenance was a thing until now! I also smoke in the same room, which probably didn't help. I'm scared to clean it myself because I might mess something up, and I'm worried about potentially needing to replace parts. Can anyone give me tips on how to clean it safely, or point me to some helpful videos? I'm feeling pretty embarrassed about this whole situation, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You could also use a cordless air duster, like the Wolf Box MF50. Look for a video that shows how to clean a PC safely with it. Before you start, shut down and unplug everything. Doesn’t hurt to hold the fans still while you blow out the dust. If it still won’t turn on after that, you might need to troubleshoot further or take it to a shop.

First, disconnect all cables and take a picture or label them if you're worried about reconnecting them later. Take the PC outside, remove the side panel, and use compressed air to blow the dust out. Again, make sure to keep the fans still while doing this. It’s pretty straightforward!

To clean the dust off your PC, I recommend getting a can of compressed air. It's great for blowing out dust. Ideally, you should do this outside! Just make sure to hold any fans still while you’re cleaning them, so they don’t spin too fast and get damaged. That said, if your PC won’t turn on already, it’s possible that something else has failed, possibly due to smoke residue. You might want to consider taking it to a repair shop for a proper diagnosis.
