How Much Can My School’s IT Department Monitor?

I recently found out that my brother's friend used my school Chromebook to look up some inappropriate stuff related to horses and humans. We were connected to my home Wi-Fi and he even tried using a proxy. Now, I'm worried because the titles of those videos have shown up in my search history, and I can't delete it. What are the chances my school's IT department will see this? Are they going to take action?

From what I’ve heard, a lot of schools have strict policies, but whether they take it seriously might depend on the specific content. If it’s something really severe, they could potentially reach out to your parents, but it might not be as bad as you’re fearing.

Honestly, your school’s IT department can typically monitor everything that happens on their devices, including your search history. It's definitely possible that they could see what your friend's friend searched. You might want to give a heads up to your parents about it before they find out themselves.

I don’t think they’ll mind all that much. I mean, it’s certainly a questionable search, but some school IT departments have a 'don’t ask, don’t tell' kind of attitude about minor issues as long as it’s not repeated or serious. Just be more careful in the future!
