RX 9070 vs. RTX 5070: Which Should I Choose for Gaming?

I'm trying to decide between the RX 9070 and the RTX 5070, as they are both priced the same. I'm aiming to play AAA games at native resolutions (1080p or 1440p) and I'm curious about utilizing ray tracing without resorting to upscaling. I'm a bit concerned that the 12GB VRAM might limit me in some games. Which one would you recommend?

I recently got the RTX 5070, and it has been performing well. I usually get solid frame rates in most titles, like God of War and Horizon Forbidden West, but it struggles a bit with some poorly optimized games. However, the 9070 is said to excel in rasterization and ray tracing performance, so keep that in mind if that's a priority for you.

I'm likely going to focus on raster but want to experiment with ray tracing.

If you're not planning to upscale, I would definitely go for the RX 9070. It's slightly ahead in performance at 1440p and has better VRAM capacity, which can help in many modern games. Just keep in mind that if you find the RTX 5070 cheaper, it could still be a decent choice, though you won't be able to max out most games without upscaling.

I was wondering how the 5070 Ti stacks up against the 9070 XT. The Ti supposedly has 16GB of VRAM and better ray tracing capabilities, right?

If they’re both the same price, the 5070 Ti is faster in both raster and ray tracing. It has better upscaling and other enhancements, but the 9070 XT may still provide good value if it’s cheaper.

I'm leaning towards the RX 9070 as well. I've heard a lot about issues with Nvidia's current lineup, which makes the 9070 a safer bet for reliability.

Totally agree, those issues slipped my mind. Appreciate the reminder!

I'm currently using the RX 9070 XT. It's been great for me, especially if you can find it around the MSRP or under $700, I'd say it's worth it! These are really your top choices right now.
