Should I get the 9800x3d or 7800x3d for CS2 with my current motherboard?

I've been using a 7600x for a year but it's not delivering the performance I need, especially since I have a 480hz OLED monitor. My goal is to maintain around 500 FPS consistently in CS2 at 1280x960 on low settings. Currently, I'm hitting about 400 FPS, which isn't cutting it for me.

I'm considering upgrading to an x3d chip, but I'm torn between the 7800x3d for €310, or the 9800x3d at €460. That price difference of €150 is significant, but I'm concerned about compatibility. I'm using an ASRock B650-M Pro RS motherboard, which has been reported to have issues with the 9800x3d potentially damaging the CPU. While I've seen that the problem might not be as widespread as it seems, it's still something that makes me uneasy.

If I go for the 7800x3d, will my motherboard support it well enough? And do you think it will help me achieve the stable 500 FPS I'm aiming for?

From what I've seen, the 9800x3d actually trails behind the 7800x3d in some benchmarks at stock settings, which is kind of surprising. Maybe consider whether you really need to spend that extra cash on the newer chip if it's not going to give you a massive performance boost out of the box.

That's definitely worth looking into. Also, the B650-M Pro should work fine with the 7800x3d, but make sure you check if there are any recent BIOS updates that might improve compatibility.

You can squeeze a bit more out of the 7600x with some overclocking or tweaking settings. But if you're really set on a new chip, just keep an eye on board compatibility and performance reports!

Honestly, I would steer clear of the ASRock motherboard if you're thinking about getting the 9800x3d. I've heard of issues where the 7800x3d has also had problems on those boards. If you're gonna upgrade your motherboard, might as well go all in with the 9800x3d. I thought the issues with the 9800x3d were a massive problem, but it seems like some are just blowing it out of proportion too. Just keep that in mind!

Yeah, if you're upgrading your motherboard anyway, going for the 9800x3d might make more sense. Just be cautious about which board you choose!

Honestly, 400 FPS is still really solid! But I totally get wanting to max out that 480hz display. Just remember that getting those extra frames might require some more tweaks beyond just swapping CPUs.
