I'm currently using Windows 11 and I'm interested in switching to Linux. I have a preference for customization and I'm fond of the KDE desktop environment. I've been considering Kubuntu, but I've heard some concerns that Ubuntu has integrated their own features (like 'snaps') which might not be purely open-source. I'm a bit confused and could really use some friendly advice to guide me as a beginner. Any suggestions?

Just a heads up, you might run into some issues with drivers or program compatibility. Plus, I’ve had to reinstall Linux a few times due to system crashes, which can be frustrating.
I've been using my Arch setup for years without a single reinstall. If you're having to reinstall often, it might not be a Linux issue, just something environmental.
I say go for Kubuntu! Don't sweat too much about the worries regarding Ubuntu's FOSS contributions. Trust me, it's way more open than Windows will ever be.
Have you checked out CachyOS with KDE? It's not usually my pick for newbies, but who knows, it might just work for you.
Interesting choice! I'm curious about your reasoning for suggesting Cachy to a beginner.
If you're really into tech, I'd recommend Arch. But if you're looking for something a bit more user-friendly, maybe just stick with Kubuntu.
I recently switched back to Linux after years with Windows, and I have to say, Kubuntu has been fantastic. I spent a few hours fine-tuning my KDE settings, and I honestly feel like my workflow is smoother than it ever was before.
What did you configure to improve your workflow? I’d love to hear some tips!

Why do you think Linux apps would be incompatible? I thought it was pretty smooth on that front.
