Help! My PC was hacked—what can I do next?

After a long workday, I accidentally downloaded a virus and now I'm in a bit of a mess. I noticed an email saying someone logged into my Ubisoft account from Vietnam right after I reinstalled Windows. I have already reinstalled Windows 11, changed all my passwords, and scanned my PC with Bitdefender. What else can I do to ensure my new PC is secure? Also, can anyone recommend a good free antivirus?

Yeah, dude, we've all been there at some point! Don’t beat yourself up too much. Just make sure you keep your software up to date and keep an eye on your accounts. Let this be a lesson in safe internet usage!

What type of reinstall did you do? If you just installed on top of your old version, that might not fully remove the malware. It’s best to do a secure wipe and then install fresh. But before you do that, make sure to log into your accounts from a different device to secure them—change passwords, set up two-factor authentication, and log out any unfamiliar devices. Windows Defender can offer decent protection, but staying safe online with good habits is always the best defense!

Honestly, just stop doing risky things online! You seem to have done the important stuff already. If you changed your passwords from a clean device, you should be good. Windows Defender is pretty reliable nowadays too, so you might not need anything extra as long as you practice safe browsing.

Did you do a full reinstall from a USB drive or just use the reset feature? A full reinstall is definitely better; you’d want to ensure everything is wiped. If you used the USB method, that’s good—it’s more thorough!
