I'm planning to switch to an AMD 9800 X3D soon, so I'll also need a new motherboard to go with it. The more I look into the transition, the more questions I have about what to do. Since I'll be moving to an entirely different platform and chipset, I want to ensure everything goes smoothly after the installation.
I've heard that I should uninstall all drivers to avoid issues with Windows booting, but some sources mentioned I might lose all data on my drives, which doesn't really make sense to me. Also, is it true that I'd have to activate Windows again? Can I keep my current Windows installation, or will I need to buy a new license? I've built PCs before, but I've never switched components across brands, especially with CPUs and motherboards.
What steps should I take before and after the installation? Thanks!

It's usually best to do a clean install of Windows 11, especially since the automatic features like core parking don’t always work well after migrating from Intel to AMD. This can help ensure optimal performance with your new X3D processor. Depending on your Windows version, you might need a new license, too.
If you have a retail version of Windows, you should be able to activate it again on your new setup. But if it's an OEM license, it can only be used with the original motherboard. As for the hardware, as long as you get an AM5 socket for the new CPU, you're good to go!
I suggest doing the build, then installing the target drive, and performing a fresh installation of Windows. This way, you'll avoid a lot of potential issues. Just remember, a clean install typically means needing a new license as well.
