I recently installed Nobara Linux primarily for gaming, but I'm running into some issues. After a dual boot setup with KDE Plasma, I loved the interface, but none of my games would start up. I've tried updating and upgrading the system, but now I can't even get Steam to open, whether from the app menu or the terminal. I also can't add games to Lutris, and Wine seems to be doing nothing at all. I'm wondering what I might have done wrong, and if I switch to Linux Mint, would I have better luck gaming there?

Make sure you set your game optimizations and Proton version in Steam, since Proton is essential for playing Windows games on Linux. If gaming is your main concern, you might want to check out Cachy OS, as it's really optimized for gaming and has a helpful wiki if you get stuck.
You might want to avoid running system update & upgrade commands. Instead, use Nobara's custom GUI tool or run the nobara-sync command in the terminal for updates.
Is there a downside to running those commands in the terminal?
I play games on Mint without any issues! I've stuck with Mint because it's stable and it just works for me. I had to tweak a few things with my graphics card setup, but overall, it's been pretty smooth. Figuring out what went wrong can be tricky without more details on your setup, though.
What kind of details are you talking about?
When you say "modern graphics card", maybe just name the model instead of being vague!
Which games have you tried? There are guides online about using Proton to play Windows games on Linux that might help you out!
I've tried several games that others confirmed work, including GTA: San Andreas and Left 4 Dead 2.

I tried to open Proton, but it asked for Steam, which won’t start for me.
