What’s the Best Linux Distro for Gaming and Beginners?

I've had it with Windows 11 after my old computer updated itself without my permission! I'm ready to switch to Linux but need some guidance. I'm looking for an easy-to-use Linux distro tailored for gaming since I mainly use my home PC for that. Also, if anyone has recommendations for guides or resources on how to get started and how to make games run on Linux, I would love to hear them! If there's anything specific I should be aware of or if I'm missing something, please let me know. Thanks!

A great approach is to download a handful of ISOs and use a USB stick with Ventoy to run live sessions of different distros. This way, you can get a hands-on feel for each desktop environment. Also, sites like ProtonDB can help you determine how well the games you play will run on Linux. Just a heads up: if you have an Nvidia GPU, choose a distro that comes with the drivers already included to save some hassle. Otherwise, if it's AMD, you should be good with any distro you choose.

Don't stress about picking the perfect distro. Just dive in with one that feels right for you, and you'll figure the rest out as you go! Enjoy the journey of learning Linux—it's a blast!

For a beginner, I'd recommend trying out Mint, Fedora, or Kubuntu. Most games will run fine, but keep in mind that some, especially those with anti-cheat systems like Valorant or Fortnite, might not work. It really depends on the games you play.

Exactly! Just check the game compatibility before switching.

If gaming is your main focus, check out Manjaro or Pop!_OS. They're smooth and have everything ready-to-go for gaming. You’ll find that they handle gaming very well compared to some others. Also, don't forget to look for learning resources on YouTube—there are loads of tutorials out there. Just embrace the learning curve; it's part of the fun!

Totally agree! Manjaro has been a game changer for me.

Honestly, picking a distro comes down to personal preference. If you can navigate Google and watch some tutorials, you're halfway there! Just remember to be patient as you learn. For now, I'd say starting with something like Linux Mint or Preferences or even CachyOS would be a good move, especially for gaming.

For easy installation and setup, I recommend trying Linux Mint. It's user-friendly, and you can easily find videos online to guide you through the process. After installation, you can use the Software Manager to download Steam for gaming and the Heroic Launcher for Epic Games. Just make sure to check Proton compatibility for your games on ProtonDB!

Mint is solid, just make sure to install those packages correctly!
